The largest most in-depth study on the relationship of diet, physical activity and weight management to cancer risk has been conducted by the American Institute of Cancer Research and its international affiliate, World Cancer Research Fund-UK. This 5 year process concluded with a 517 page report based on thousands of studies and includes hundreds of experts from around the world. The evidence linking excess weight with increase risks of cancer is without a doubt stronger than ever before and more convincing than ever.
I’m just getting into the report myself and it’s enough to make me want to do everything that I possibly can to achieve an optimal body fat percentage.
You can learn more about the report at the American Institute of Cancer Research website here: http://www.aicr.org/site/PageServer?pagename=res_report_second
The thing that really gets me is that we know that cancer can be prevented through our actions and behaviours in many cases. There are environmental issues and genetic factors that we can’t necessarily control, but in many many cases the factors which cause cancer are largely in our control. Yet most people choose to ignore this and continue to do the things which are cutting their quality of life and their life span short.
10 years ago when I began my personal training career I asked people why they wanted to start working out. Most of them gave me a lofty answer of, “I want to be more fit.” Some of them said, “I want to be healthier so I don’t die young.”
Today the fear of death is not enough to drive someone to workout or eat healthy natural foods. This completely boggles my mind. You know that you are going to die young, yet you insist on continuing to eat crap and watch television instead of getting active and eating well.
Is it because people want instant results and living a longer high quality life is not a form of instant gratification?
Is that temporary satisfaction more important than living to see your children get married, have kids, and you being healthy enough to play with them?
If suffering through life and dieing young is not enough to scare you into losing body fat, what is?
Was this incredibly convincing and detailed report really done in vein because the large majority of people will choose to brush it off, ignore it, and live with the consequences of their years of abuse to their body?
It’s time to take some personal responsibility here. Stop blaming fast food joints, late night food commercials, processed foods bombarding the grocery store shelves, lack of time, lack of energy, or anything else for that matter. Your health and quality of life is for the most part in your control. What are you going to do about it?
You deserve a high quality long life that you can enjoy. You can choose to have this. Or you can choose suffering and early death.
As I get through this 517 page report and the convincing evidence that increased body fat results in increased risk of many forms of cancer such as colorectum, oesophagus (adenocarcinoma), endometrium, pancreas, kidney, and breast (postmenopause), I will inform you on the discoveries that I come across and that you can benefit from. Research is even showing that excess body fat is a probable cause of cancer of the gallbladder as well.
So now my question to you is… What are you going to do in order to prevent a premature death and suffering through a low quality of life?
I ask you to please take the positives from this post and realize that much of this is in your control. You can choose to live a longer and better quality of life. You can do whatever it takes to prevent cancer.
Live the healthy lifestyle and have a totally awesome day!
