I had a great conversation with Tom Venuto last week about music and how the right type of music will trigger a response in your brain which will lead to an intense workout. Music inspires you to take action and put forth your very best efforts during your workout sessions and can totally keep you focused on your fat loss goals. I’ve had some of my very best workouts this week all because of the music I chose to have playing in my headphones during my workouts. It also triggered some pretty amazing experiences as I’m about to share…

Tom and I were first talking about how we approach each workout with purpose and passion. Tom said, “If I just casually walk into the gym without preparing myself mentally… forget it! It just won’t work.” We both agreed that before walking into the gym you’ve got to go through some form of mental ritual or ‘psyching up’ and be prepared to give this workout everything that you’ve got.

I mentioned that I always listen to an audio from the Optimindzation Program which is pure isochronic tones that are meant to boost your energy and power. I Then Listen to the Attraction Accelerator audio during my workout which is high energy music with the isochronic tones in the background. I have those headphones cranked and my focus is intense.

Tom laughed and said, “Nothing works better for me than some Metallica for me.” He listed another rock band or heavy metal group too. The thing to take away from this is that there are certain songs or bands that can stir up a lot of emotion in you and get your adrenaline pumping.

As soon as Tom puts on those headphones a trigger goes off and he’s in the zone. He’s attached the thoughts and feelings of putting forth his best efforts and really pushing himself to the songs that he’s listening to.

There’s a lot of power behind the workout play list that you have on your mp3 player.

I mentioned earlier that I’ve had some pretty awesome experiences this week because of my selection of music that I played in my headphones during my workouts. I’ve pushed myself beyond belief as a result of it.

I still listened to the same audios that I typically do during most of my workouts and those workouts were incredibly intense.

The interesting thing happened when I played rap music and Rage Against The Machine which were all songs that I used to listen to over a decade ago while working out in my parents basement which was unfinished with the cinder blocks showing and my posters of Arnold Schwarzenegger and other bodybuilders on the wall.

It was almost like a dungeon and it was cold in the winter time. But that was the place where I pushed myself to my limits along with my workout partner at the time. These songs completely put me back in those moments and got me completely fired up. It’s like I was detached from this reality during my workouts.

This has been such an incredible experience that I’m going to play around with. I’m going to pull out all my old cd’s that I used to listen to while working out in my parents basement and I’m going to go out and get a poster of Arnold like I had back then.

Music is definitely a powerful tool that you should include in your fat loss arsenal.

I would love to know if there are certain songs that you find really motivate the heck out of you or bring you back to times when you used to push yourself with great intensity during your workouts? How does it make you respond?
