When Do You Burn The Most Calories?

When it comes to fat loss I’m sure that you’re always on the lookout for a workout program that will burn the most calories in the shortest time possible. You can definitely find plenty of programs on the market that are very efficient and effective at burning fat in just minutes a day. But even if the workout program that you are following has ignited your metabolic furnace for 48 hours after the workout it will never be the source of where the majority of your calories are burned throughout the day.
Most of the calories that you burn throughout the day come from what you do with yourself during the remainder of your day. Unfortunately many people spend those hours sitting at a desk working or on the couch watching the television.
When you sit your body is only burning approximately 60-70 calories per hour. If you fall into that category of spending the majority of time with your backside parked in the seated position you are really missing out on the opportunity to burn some extra calories in a fun and entertaining way. You’re also prolonging the time period that it will take for you to sculpt the body that you deserve.
Performing your workout and cardio sessions on a regular basis are fantastic, but it’s just not enough. You need to get moving more often throughout the rest of your day. But this doesn’t have to be a tedious task.
If you have kids you are lucky. They are the best piece of equipment that money can’t buy. Shayne and Noelle are 8 and 6. They keep Angie and I on our toes all day long. Here’s some of the fun ways that we stay active as a family…
Embrace The Active Lifestyle
We make a point of being active with our kids each day. We even make up games just to spice things up. In the video you saw me being active and kicking the ball with my kids and nieces and nephews. You also saw Shayne getting soaked at Great Wolf Lodge.
We always plan active vacations. The video of Angie on the bridge was from our 10 year wedding anniversary. We intentionally booked our trip around small towns that had hiking and biking trails so we could be active during our time away.
We go apple picking every Autumn season and we visit a cool orchard that has slides and monkey bars in the barn.
We also have a yearly tradition of visiting an awesome Christmas Tree farm that has loads of outdoor activities in the forested area in the middle of the tree farm. They also have that cool hay stack maze that you see Shayne running around in. I swear there’s 100 kids running around inside there.
I would love to take credit for the great success that many of my customers achieve through following my fat loss programs, but that certainly wouldn’t be fair. A great deal of their success came from the active lifestyle that they adopted in addition to my programs.
When you talk about a “Lifestyle Approach” to fitness it goes way beyond a workout program, cardio training, or finding a nutrition plan that you can stick with.
It’s about embracing the very thing that your body was designed for… being physically active and living to your potential.
This isn’t about a set schedule or routine. It’s about having fun and experiencing a great deal of enjoyment from life.
Although you will be burning more calories throughout the day by embracing the active lifestyle… no calorie counter will ever be able to measure the true success that comes as a result of it.
It’s this type of success that you should be aiming for. It’s far greater than reaching a milestone on the scale. It’s living life to the fullest. It’s allowing the true YOU to shine!
Let’s have some fun together and show the world what we’re made of.
You ROCK!

Well, this is so true. Most of the fat burning process is due to the extra activity one do as the day go along. For instance any type of activity involving physical movements. Sometimes I think that any type of activity is good.
This not true since many of the daily tasks are being done without the right coordination of the muscles and body positions, fact which leads to injuries or discomfort. Most of the people do many different types of activities requiring muscle power from lifting their winter tires to potatoes bags. Unfortunately, those movements are not properly coordinated and therefore dangerous, if the actions are perfomed in such way.
Nevertheless one should choose the active life and not a sedentary one under the conditions of respecting the correct body posture at all times.
thanks
Awesome suggestion to your clients!! That is always my first questions when working with new members at my gym. What is your daily activity? I try to get them to just make little changes in their daily life to help burn calories. For example, instead of riding around the market parking lot looking for the closest spot, park in the back and spend the time walking, take the stairs instead of the elevator, walk or pace around the house while on your cell or house phone, squeeze your abs in and hold at every red light and release on green, do jumping jacks or push ups during commercials. It is amazing how many more caloies you can burn in a day and not feel like you are “exercising”. God Speed!
Thanks Traian and Christine.
It’s so true that the little things can really add up. The thing that I like about finding a parking spot further away from the mall or store entrance is that it puts me in the mindset of a healthy person. Just performing simple activities as you have suggested frequently throughout your day will keep you consciously aware of your healthy lifestyle and make it so much easier to make your healthy choices become a habit.
hi Scott,
Always love the simplicity of your work. Thanks for your continued great ideas and workouts.
Unfortunatly I can’t see your video clip. Only have a small symbol in cornner of white box? Is there somewhere else I can watch this? Sounds like it’s full of good fun.
Merry Xmas, x JL
Cool video. I always knew that running around with the kids DOES help burn more calories. I am always having lively discussions with my trainer on that point.
Great advice! Adding simple little activities to your daily regime will most definitely help maintain a slimmer body. Just simple things like always taking the stairs instead of the lift in work or parking the far end of the car park when you go shopping etc.
Scott, I love that you embrace an active lifestyle with your children! You and Angie are inspirations! Good stuff!
