I was just listening to our local news this morning about a study that examined the differences between men and women when it comes to losing body fat.

Without getting into too much detail this is what I gathered: When a women loses so much body fat, her body will actually going into an ‘alert mode’ to slow metabolism down. Why? The researcher stated that they are still looking into all the answers but that it likely has something to do with bearing children and therefore, requiring so much body fat to produce milk.
Therefore, us women MAY have more difficulty losing the body fat compared to our male counterparts but this DOES NOT MEAN that you cannot. It just may take more ‘tweaking’ on your part in terms of diet.
Before I get into that I also wanted to mention that this study found that when women workout, compared to men, we tend to ‘overcompensate’ for calories burned. The study found that, on average, women tend to eat more calories than we actually burned from our workout.
One more grim detail: our estrogen levels dip before our menstrual cycle. What does this mean? Well, then our metabolism slows down. UUgghhh! And, of course, it is the time of the month that we get our cravings and appetite often increases. So, do you just ‘throw in the towel’ and give up?! Why am I telling you all of this?
I am saying all of this CRAP because I want you to get used to hearing and reading article after article and newscast after newscast that you are DOOMED to be depressed and living unhealthy. There is NO HOPE. As women, we are biologically MADE TO CARRY FAT. HUH? Do you want to believe this, because that is what I just told you I heard. It’s the LATEST and GREATEST news story!
There you go, you can justify living in your current state of health. You shouldn’t exercise because it only makes you want to eat more. Oh, and pig right out before your period because your metabolism slows down anyway and, hell, why fight the cravings?! Yes, and one more thing…our bodies are MADE to STORE FAT so it must be healthy, right? We are the child-bearers…I mean your kids may be teenagers, but media does say that women are SUPPOSE to carry more fat compared to men. So there you go, you can justify your current health once again!
Okay, on a serious and POSITIVE note: You do have all the power within you to live in a healthier state right at this moment! I totally believe that. You can CHOOSE to drink water instead of pop. You can CHOOSE to eat more fruits and veggies today. You can CHOOSE to take a walk and then challenge yourself to walk farther the next day.
Which leads me to emphasize the importance of a your diet. Since I have followed the Every Other Day Diet myself, I strongly believe this plan WILL help you to lose body fat. The author of the book, Jon Benson, lays out a plan that is simple to follow and can truly be implemented for life! I did not feel deprived. He also addresses the issue of ‘caloric cycling’ so that your metabolism stays ‘high’.
What ACTION steps will you take TODAY to make yourself healthier?
Cheers to health,
Angie
